Description
A transistor characteristic curve is a graphical representation of the electrical properties of a transistor. It shows how the current through the transistor behaves as a function of voltage and control current.
Importance
- Understanding the transistor: It helps to analyze the behavior of the transistor in different operating states.
- Dimensioning circuits: You can use it to calculate resistances, voltages and currents, e.g. in amplifier circuits
Function
The characteristic curve field shows how the transistor works:
- Blocking range: No current flow – the transistor is switched off.
- Linear range: Current flow increases proportionally – important for amplifiers.
- Saturation range: Maximum current flow – important for switching applications.
